RAINHAM HALL TO TRANSFORM INTO A JANE AUSTEN WORLD FOR ONE VERY SPECIAL DAY.
CALLING ALL JANE AUSTEN FANS! Rainham Hall is set to step back in time this October as the historic Havering venue invites visitors to experience a day packed with Regency charm, dancing, dressing up, crafts and plenty of Austen-inspired fun.
Forget the modern world for a few hours and step into the elegant world of Jane Austen at Rainham Hall on Sunday 11 October, when the National Trust will transform the historic venue into a celebration of all things Regency.
The event, titled ‘All Things Austen: Step into Regency at Rainham Hall’, will run from 12pm until 4pm and promises a day of dancing, creativity and frivolous fun inspired by Austen and her novels.
Visitors can try their hand at some gentle Regency dancing, arrange their own flower posies or sit down for a game of period cards.
For those who fancy getting creative, there will also be opportunities to make pomanders, try calligraphy or have a go at simple sewing.
And it would not be a Regency day without the fashion.
Visitors will be able to try on bonnets and Georgian clothing, with Regency dress-up encouraged for anyone wanting to fully embrace the occasion.
There will also be cream teas available to buy, adding another suitably traditional touch to the day.
Rainham Hall provides the perfect backdrop for the event. The elegant Georgian house was built in 1729 for merchant and sea captain Captain John Harle and is now owned by the National Trust. It is a rare survivor and a fine example of Queen Anne-style architecture.
The Hall has a fascinating history of its own, having been home to nearly 50 different inhabitants over almost 300 years, including merchants, artists, vicars and a Vogue photographer.
Its historic surroundings and community garden will provide an atmospheric setting for visitors wanting to escape into the world of Austen for an afternoon.
Whether you are a lifelong Jane Austen fan, love historic fashion, fancy trying Regency dancing or simply want to enjoy something a little different in Havering, this promises to be a Sunday with a distinctly Austen-inspired twist.
So dust off your bonnet, practise your best Regency manners and prepare for an afternoon of dancing, making, dressing up and all things Austen.
