Romford Bursts into Colour as the Community Celebrate Diwali in Spectacular Festival of Lights!
Romford Market was transformed into a wonderful celebration of colour, culture and community on Sunday 1 November as residents came together to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
The fantastic event brought a real taste of India to the heart of Romford, with singers, drummers and dancers filling the Market with music, colour and incredible entertainment.
Local residents also had the opportunity to enjoy delicious Indian street food, admire beautiful traditional clothing and jewellery, and experience some of the wonderful culture that makes Diwali such a special celebration.
Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, celebrates the return of Lord Rama after his period of exile in the forest and is a time of light, celebration and coming together.

The event was organised by the fantastic teams at Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA), Romford BID and Havering Changing, who worked together to bring this special celebration to the heart of the borough.
The day was also a wonderful reminder of the incredible work carried out by so many members of Havering’s diverse communities, helping to bring people together and celebrate the different cultures that make our borough so special.
From the music and dancing to the food, colourful displays and smiling faces, this was a truly lovely and inclusive community event that brought culture, fun and a real splash of colour to the streets of Romford.
Well done to everyone involved in bringing such a fantastic celebration to our community!
