Tributes Paid to Much Loved Former Havering Mayor Following His Death.

Tributes are being paid to former Havering Mayor and St Andrew’s Ward councillor Gerry O’Sullivan, who sadly passed away last night following a heart attack. Gerry was a much-loved and highly respected local representative who dedicated many years to serving his community through the Hornchurch Residents’ Association.

For those who knew and worked alongside Gerry, he will be remembered as a genuinely lovely man, with a fantastic sense of humour, a warm personality and a deep commitment to the residents he represented.

Gerry served as a councillor for St Andrew’s Ward for many years and was also Chairman of the Hornchurch Residents’ Association, where he played a central role in supporting the work of the organisation and helping residents across the community.

During his final year as a councillor, Gerry was particularly proud to serve as Mayor of Havering, alongside his wife Sue, who was Mayoress. The couple were known for their warmth and friendliness, making friends wherever they went.

Deputy Chair of the Hornchurch Residents’ Association, Councillor Stephanie Nunn, paid tribute to her former colleague and dear friend.

She said:

“We are so sad to hear that ex councillor and former mayor Gerry O’Sullivan passed away last night from a heart attack.

“Gerry had been our colleague and dear friend for 15 years. He worked very hard to represent the residents of St Andrews Ward and as Chairman of the Hornchurch Residents’ Association he was the heart of the Association. He helped all of us with reasoned advice and introduced efficient ways of working.

“In his last year of being a councillor he was very proud to be Mayor of Havering along with his wife Sue as Mayoress. They were a warm and friendly couple and made friends everywhere they went.

“Our thoughts are with Sue, daughter Kellie and her partner and their two grandchildren.

“Gerry was a hard working, sincere family man and we will all miss him.”

Gerry leaves behind a legacy of public service, friendship and dedication to the people of St Andrew’s Ward and the wider Hornchurch community.

Our thoughts are with Sue, Kellie and the whole family at this very sad time.

Please be aware the family have asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time. They kindly request that their wishes are respected as they come to terms with what has happened and support one another.

Rest in peace, Gerry. You will be greatly missed.
