Havering AC Seniors Shine as Maddie Barker Wins at Essex Cross Country League

Freddie Rowe finished second in his first senior league race as the club’s leading runners strengthened their positions at One Tree Hill.

Havering Athletic Club’s senior teams were among the standout performers at the second round of the Essex Cross Country League on Saturday 24 October, with a men’s team victory and an individual win for Maddie Barker in the women’s race.

Competing in stormy conditions at One Tree Hill, the senior men placed five runners in the first 12 and fielded 20 finishers to extend their lead in the league standings.

European Under-18 1500m champion Freddie Rowe, now racing in the Under-20 age group, made an impressive first appearance in the senior league race. He finished second behind Southend’s Adam Hickey, with clubmate Sam Horsley sixth and James Stewart seventh.

Kieran O’Hara followed in 11th, Chander Dhillon was 12th and Findlay McLaren completed the scoring six in 22nd place. Havering won the team competition with 60 points, according to the club’s provisional results.

Poppy Vines finished seventh in the Under-18 women’s event, with Havering fourth in the team competition. Violet Everett was 10th among the Under-16 girls, whose team placed fifth.
