Ingrebourne Valley On Fire Again-How Many More Fires Before Someone Takes Action?”
Once again, at almost the same time and in virtually the same location, another devastating grass fire has broken out at Ingrebourne Valley.
The area between Elm Park and Rainham has now been plagued by fires for weeks. They are happening with alarming regularity—virtually every single day. Today’s blaze has once again seen six fire engines rushed to the scene as firefighters battle to stop the flames spreading further across one of Havering’s most important green spaces.
The question residents are now repeatedly asking is simple: How are these fires continuing to start in almost identical locations and at similar times?
Every day another piece of our precious countryside disappears. Every day more wildlife is killed or driven from its habitat. Birds lose their nesting grounds, mammals lose their homes, insects and reptiles perish in the flames, and habitats that have taken decades to establish are destroyed in a matter of minutes.
While our countryside burns, our firefighters continue to perform nothing short of an extraordinary job. Time after time they respond without hesitation, working in scorching temperatures, wearing heavy protective equipment and putting themselves in danger to protect our communities, our homes and our green spaces. Their dedication has prevented these fires from becoming even greater tragedies.
They deserve enormous praise.
But every hour they spend tackling another grass fire at Ingrebourne Valley is another hour they are unavailable to respond elsewhere across Havering during one of the hottest periods of the year. Their resources are being stretched, their time is being consumed, and yet they continue to answer every call with professionalism, courage and determination.
Residents are becoming increasingly concerned. These fires are no longer being viewed as isolated incidents. With blazes occurring at similar times and in similar places, people quite rightly want answers.
If these fires are being deliberately started, then whoever is responsible is not just destroying wildlife—they are placing firefighters, nearby residents, homes and the wider community at risk.
Enough is enough.
This has now become an urgent issue that requires immediate attention. The cause of these repeated fires must be identified, those responsible held accountable, and every effort made to protect one of Havering’s most treasured natural spaces before even more of it is lost.
