TfL confirms partial reopening date for Gallows Corner flyover.

Transport for London has confirmed to the Havering Daily that parts of the Gallows Corner road network will partially reopen from Sunday 10 May following months of disruption and major engineering works.

Scott Haxton, TfL’s Director of Capital Delivery, said that all significant planned works by TfL and Essex and Suffolk Water at the junction have now been completed, allowing preparations for a phased reopening to move forward.

Following extensive technical and safety checks, TfL says the eastbound flyover will reopen to general traffic, allowing vehicles to travel between the A12 Eastern Avenue and the A127 Southend Arterial Road.

Straight Road and Main Road will also fully reopen in both directions, alongside parts of the roundabout network.

However, several restrictions will remain in place. The flyover will stay closed westbound, while the A12 southbound section will remain bus only to allow water main works to continue safely and to help manage traffic levels in the area.

TfL acknowledged the ongoing frustration felt by residents, businesses and drivers impacted by the disruption.

Scott Haxton said, “We know how frustrating this situation continues to be for local residents, businesses and road users, and we would like to thank everyone for their patience while we have been working with Essex and Suffolk Water to safely progress this work.”

He added that TfL remains focused on fully reopening the junction as quickly and safely as possible while supporting the completion of final testing works linked to the water infrastructure project.

From Sunday 10 May, the following routes will reopen:

The eastbound flyover from A12 Eastern Avenue to the A127 Southend Arterial Road

Access from the roundabout to the A12 Colchester Road eastbound

Straight Road in both directions

Main Road in both directions

Despite the partial reopening, several closures and diversions will remain in place:

No access to the westbound flyover

No access from the A12 Eastern Avenue eastbound onto the roundabout

No access from the roundabout onto the A12 Eastern Avenue westbound

No access from the A12 Colchester Road onto the roundabout

No access from the roundabout onto the A127 eastbound

TfL says monitoring will continue closely as traffic returns to the area.
