Havering Police Officers Honoured as Mayor Awards Top Officers for Outstanding Service.
‘A real credit to our borough and East Area’.
Two Havering police officers were yesterday presented with special awards by the Mayor, Councillor Sue Ospreay, for their outstanding dedication to the community.
Chief Inspector Routley and Inspector Connolly are officers who go above and beyond their job to serve this borough. Yesterday they were awarded a Mayor’s Merit for their incredible contribution to Havering and the impact they continue to have across the community.
Chief Inspector Routley has been a leading officer in the Harold Hill Clear Hold Build initiative, which has made significant progress across the area. He has worked closely with organisations like Youth Unity to proactively engage youth across the area and build stronger community links.
He is also the organiser of the successful free football and basketball sessions during school holidays that are vital preventative measures for young people. These sessions have played an important role in supporting youth and giving them positive opportunities.

Mr Routley is a leading force in stepping in to help the community, directly engaging with residents and finding answers to difficult situations. He is a key member of the Havering community who consistently goes above and beyond to support this borough.
Chief Inspector Routley told the Havering Daily: “It is a real privilege to serve the communities of Havering as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Team. An area I have been proud to work in for over half of my 21-year career to date. Community policing is a role I am deeply passionate about, and I feel fortunate to lead a group of dedicated officers who genuinely care about the people and area they serve.
I would like to thank the Mayor for this recognition. It means a great deal to me and is something I truly value and appreciate.”
Inspector Connolly is a very hands on and proactive inspector who is dedicated to this borough. He is always present at meetings, hearing residents’ concerns in person and working hard to address local issues.
He is a key member of this community whose work on tool theft has given him country wide recognition. Inspector Connolly is the officer who recovered around half a million pounds worth of stolen tools locally and in Thurrock and has made huge progress in the battle against tool theft.
Mr Connolly is committed to reducing crime and is known for his proactive approach. He has worked closely with retailers across Elm Park, supporting them in the fight against shoplifting. He hosts regular meetings to hear concerns and is always finding ways to support the Havering community.
Inspector Connolly told the Havering Daily: “It means a great deal to be recognised by the Mayor and our community. I’m proud of the team I work with, and of the shared passion we have for making our community a safer place.”
Both are outstanding officers who work behind the scenes and do fantastic work across Havering. We are very lucky to have such dedicated and hardworking officers serving our community, and this recognition highlights the difference they make every day.
Harold Hill community champion Jan Sargent thanked both officers for their oustanding service.
