Havering Council are calling for the partial opening of Gallows Corner after the opening date was once again delayed, as frustration across the borough reaches new levels.

Following the latest announcement from Transport for London confirming the junction will not reopen as planned, the Council has now stepped in, urging urgent action to reduce the impact on residents and businesses.

Havering’s Chief Executive said the Council has met with TfL and made it clear that all possible options must now be explored, including whether a limited or partial reopening of the junction can be delivered safely to help get traffic moving again.

The Council has stressed that while any partial reopening would need to be carefully assessed to avoid further issues on surrounding roads, the current situation cannot continue.

There is also growing anger over what many are now calling a complete fiasco, with residents voicing their frustration after months of disruption and repeated missed deadlines.

The Council has acknowledged those concerns, saying it fully understands why people are upset, but has made clear that the project sits with TfL and Essex and Suffolk Water, not the local authority.

Residents are now being urged to direct their frustration towards those responsible for the works.

The Council has also revealed that as recently as February, it was assured by TfL that the junction would reopen by the end of April. It says it only shared that date publicly on the understanding it was reliable, making the latest delay even more frustrating.

The cause of the delay has been linked to unexpected leaks within the Essex and Suffolk Water works, which are now being addressed.

However, the Council says enough is enough and is calling on both TfL and Essex and Suffolk Water to urgently resolve the situation.

There are also calls for compensation to be considered for the many residents and businesses affected, with the Council urging both organisations to begin planning how that support could be delivered.

With no confirmed reopening date and pressure continuing to build, the demand for action is now louder than ever as Havering looks for answers and an end to the disruption.
