Gallows Corner Will FINALLY Reopen by the End of September… This Year!
It looks like Gallows Corner could FINALLY be ready to reopen by the end of September — yes, September 2026!
After months of disruption, diversions and frustration for local residents, businesses and drivers, there is now a date in sight for the return of normal traffic at one of Havering’s busiest junctions.
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that the Gallows Corner flyover and roundabout are on track to fully reopen to traffic by the end of September, following the completion of major water infrastructure works by Essex & Suffolk Water.
The ageing flyover has been undergoing major strengthening and refurbishment works. Originally built in the 1970s as a temporary structure, the project is intended to improve the safety and reliability of the important route through Havering and east London.
Essex & Suffolk Water has now completed its work to divert and replace a strategic water main and several distribution mains beneath the junction and has handed the site back to TfL.
TfL and its contractor, Costain, will now undertake the final reinstatement and resurfacing works in the areas affected by the water infrastructure work.
This final stage is expected to involve a full weekend closure and two overnight closures.
TfL says the works are expected to allow the full reopening of the flyover and roundabout to general traffic by the end of September, with the remaining traffic management measures and diversion routes removed.
Once the scheme is complete, larger vehicles will be able to use the flyover, allowing the existing speed and weight restrictions to be removed.
Scott Haxton, TfL’s Director of Capital Delivery Infrastructure, said:
“We look forward to seeing the flyover opening at the end of the month.”
He apologised to local residents, businesses and road users for the delays associated with the works and thanked them for their patience while the project has been carried out.
TfL says the completion of the Essex & Suffolk Water works means the project can now move into its final phase.
So, after months of disruption, Gallows Corner is finally heading towards the finish line.
And with TfL saying the flyover is on track to reopen by the end of September, residents and drivers will no doubt be keeping a very close eye on the calendar.

Just open the A12 West to East at the roundabout junction with Straight Road and Main Road. There is no reason to keep it closed. Plus ANOTHER MONTH. Scandalous.
