Debenhams site to remain as a retail outlet-owners confirm.

Recent reports on social media have caused speculation about the development of the former Debenhams site in Romford. Rumours were rife across social media that this was going to be developed into a particular type of mall.

The Havering Daily has spoken to representatives of the landlords of the Debenhams site and they have clearly stated that it will remain as a retail outlet and not what has been stated across social media. All their developments will have to go to planning through the local council first and they are keen to work with locals in the area.

More to follow.

Are you able to clarify what type of retail outlet it will be, and what was stated across social media (that it won’t be)? The article is a little vague. Thanks.

Saying the site will remain as a retail outlet is not a sufficient answer. If the largest, by far, store in Romford is to be aimed at one particular part of society (by governments own statistics about 2%), see media coverage of proposed new owner on websites, stating it was to be aimed at his community then it should not be acceptable. This type of one dimensional vision will mean the death toll for trading in Romford. It will dominate the area with trading which is not representative of those living in Romford, Hornchurch, Upminster and other areas in the vicinity. There are a huge number of this type of outlets in Upton Park, East Ham and Ilford.
