Five-star reviews for The Canterville Ghost as Brookside production enters final weekend
Brookside Theatre’s latest production has won praise for its comedy, atmosphere and theatrical effects as it enters its final weekend in Romford.
Brookside Theatre’s production of The Canterville Ghost has received a string of five-star reviews following its opening night, with just a handful of performances remaining before the show closes this Sunday.
Based on Oscar Wilde’s much-loved classic, the stage adaptation follows the legendary Sir Simon de Canterville as he encounters a modern family who simply refuse to be frightened by his centuries of carefully perfected haunting.
The Romford production combines gothic comedy, theatrical illusions and effects with a story of love, loss and redemption.
According to Brookside Theatre, critics have praised the show’s humour, staging and atmosphere, with four five-star reviews following its opening.
The London Stage Review described the production as “a wickedly funny, visually rich reimagining of The Canterville Ghost”, while Evening Arts Ledger praised its combination of gothic atmosphere and comedy.
West End Critic highlighted the balance between humour and heart, while Curtain Call Weekly described the production as fast, funny and beautifully staged.
The positive reviews come as the production enters its final performances at the Brookside Theatre in Romford.
The Canterville Ghost will close on Sunday 13 September 2026, leaving audiences with the final weekend to see the production. The show has a running time of approximately two hours and 20 minutes.
Brookside Theatre, based in Eastern Road, Romford, is a self-supporting arts venue which regularly stages plays, musicals, tribute shows and community productions.
