Hornchurch’s Best Sellers Raises Over £1,000 for Children’s Cancer Charity at First Ever ‘Citrus Sunday’ Event
A Hornchurch independent business has proved that community spirit is alive and well after raising more than £1,000 for charity during its first ever summer shopping event.

Best Sellers, located in Hornchurch, hosted its inaugural ‘Citrus Sunday’ charity event on Sunday 12 July, bringing together customers, local businesses and supporters for a day of shopping, entertainment and fundraising in aid of the Sammy Jo Foundation/Children with Cancer UK.
Adding to the special occasion was local author Matt Brandon, who officially launched his heartfelt book, ‘When Life Goes Tits Up’, written in memory of his beloved daughter, Sammy Jo. Every penny raised from the sale of the book goes to Children with Cancer UK, and by the end of the event Matt had completely sold out of his stock.
The day was described as a huge success, with a fantastic atmosphere, generous donations and plenty of entertainment keeping visitors smiling throughout the event. Drinks flowed, customers enjoyed the lively atmosphere, and the local community once again demonstrated its incredible generosity.
By the end of the day, an impressive £1,073.91 had been raised, with further donations continuing to arrive from people who were unable to attend but still wanted to support the cause.
The Best Seller team thanked everyone who attended and helped make the day such a memorable success.
“On Sunday 12 July we held our first summer charity shopping event, ‘Citrus Sunday’, raising money for the Sammy Jo Foundation/Children with Cancer UK alongside Matt Brandon, who launched his new book ‘When Life Goes Tits Up’ in memory of his lovely daughter, Sammy Jo. The event was a huge success with a fantastic atmosphere full of lovely people who were incredibly generous. Matt sold out of his books, and together we raised £1,073.91, with even more donations coming in afterwards from people who couldn’t make it.”
The team also paid tribute to everyone who helped bring the event together, offering special thanks to Events by Ellie, Morgan Campbell for providing live entertainment, Alextra Studios for capturing the day through photography, as well as their dedicated staff and family members whose hard work made the event possible.
Although the summer event has only just taken place, plans are already underway for an even bigger festive fundraiser later this year.
The Best Seller is encouraging everyone to keep an eye on its social media channels for details of its Christmas charity event, promising it will be “bigger and better” than ever before.
For those who missed the launch, copies of ‘When Life Goes Tits Up’ are still available to purchase in store, with proceeds continuing to support Children with Cancer UK.
The success of Citrus Sunday not only raised vital funds for an important cause but also highlighted the generosity of the Hornchurch community and the difference that local businesses can make when they come together for charity.
