HAVERING COUNCIL URGES LAST-MINUTE DEAL TO STOP BIN MEN’S STRIKE.

Following The Havering Daily’s exclusive yesterday, Friday 16 October, revealing that bin men across Havering are set to strike, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Realm, Councillor Martynas Cekavicius, has called on both sides to reach an agreement and avoid disruption to residents and essential services.

Councillor Cekavicius has responded to the developing dispute between waste contractor FCC and the Unite union, confirming that the Council is aware of the ongoing discussions and is monitoring the situation.

With the prospect of disruption to waste collections raising concerns for households across the borough, the Cabinet Member has urged both sides to work towards a resolution as quickly as possible.

He said:

“Havering Council is aware of the ongoing discussions between FCC and Unite regarding a number of issues raised by union members.

“While these discussions continue, the Council strongly urges both FCC and the Union to work constructively towards an amicable resolution as soon as possible, in the interests of employees and to minimise the risk of disruption to local residents and essential services.

“The Council will remain in close contact with FCC as discussions progress and will continue to monitor the situation.

“We hope that both parties can reach a positive outcome through dialogue and negotiation, avoiding any unnecessary impact on residents.”
