‘OUR WISHES HAVE BEEN GRANTED’: HAVERING OPPOSITION LEADER WELCOMES £42M QUEEN’S A&E BOOST.

Havering opposition leader Councillor Gillian Ford has welcomed the £42 million funding secured to transform Queen’s Hospital A&E, saying the investment is a long-awaited breakthrough after years of concerns over rising demand and capacity pressures.

The former Chair of Havering’s Health and Wellbeing Board said local partners had worked to make the case for greater support and praised hospital trust Chief Executive Matthew Trainer for his persistence in pushing for improvements, while stressing that residents must now wait to see how the plans are delivered and what impact they will have on emergency care.

She told the Havering Daily:

“As the former Chair of Havering’s Health and Wellbeing Board and Co-Chair of Havering Placed Partnership our wishes have been granted.

I know that neither of these Boards have met since I Chaired the last, before the May elections, but am sure partners will share my delight. We had all recognised the growth in demand and capacity issues, that is why we made partnership representation to ensure growth and financial support for Queens Hospital. We now have to wait to see the programme delivery and the positive impact this will have on A & E capacity, and the Chief Executive of the Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospital Trust Matthew Trainer must be commended for his persistence in pursuing what he recognised as an unsatisfactory A & E offer at Queens Hospital.”
