Out of Control: Residents Say Hornchurch Road Has Become a Night-Time Race Circuit.
Residents living along Burnway in Hornchurch say they have reached breaking point after another weekend of dangerous driving left them fearing that someone could be seriously injured.
The latest incident saw a vehicle repeatedly speeding around Burnway and nearby Glebe Way at what residents described as “extremely high speed” – all while driving without its lights on.
Witnesses say the driver completed several laps of the two roads around 11pm, turning the residential streets into what many have described as a race circuit.
Residents also believe that after racing around the roads, some drivers head to the nearby Sainsbury’s car park after 11pm, where they allegedly carry out dangerous drifting manoeuvres and perform “doughnuts”.

People living close to the supermarket say they are regularly disturbed by the sound of engines revving and tyres screeching late into the night as cars gather in the car park.
Frustrated residents say enough is enough. They are now working closely with local police officers to tackle the ongoing problem and are urging anyone with information or footage of dangerous driving to report it.
Many are also calling on Havering Council to install speed humps or other traffic-calming measures, arguing that Burnway has become a race track rather than a quiet residential road.
One resident said: “We’re fed up. This has been going on for far too long. It’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt if nothing is done.”
Residents are now hoping that increased police patrols, together with permanent traffic-calming measures, will finally bring an end to the dangerous speeding that has left so many families living in fear.
