Three On The Trot For Boro As Romford Beat Clapton Community 2–0
Brown and Day on target as Romford claim a third successive home league victory.

Romford 2, Clapton Community 0. A goal in each half – one from Jaxon Brown and another by Harrison Day – gave Romford a comfortable win over Clapton Community, who have now lost all five of their away games in the Essex Senior League.
It was Romford’s third consecutive home league win, a run in which six goals have been scored and none conceded, although Lamar Johnson’s clean sheet in this game was aided by Clapton hitting a post with a penalty after 37 minutes.

The first chance of a game that was low on them fell to Jake Barlow, but when the Boro central defender met Kian Cocking’s free-kick after nine minutes he could only direct his header into the space occupied by Clapton keeper Jack Francis. Prince Sikiru had a shot saved by Francis after 13 minutes, but the Boro midfielder became another injury worry when he hobbled off after 34 minutes to be replaced by Ezra Agyiri.
A rare chance for the visitors came their way after 17 minutes when Joel Akuwudike was found by a cross-field pass but he shot harmlessly over and seven minutes later, Romford took the lead. Brown ran onto Aron Gordon’s pass and was shoved over in the penalty area by Clapton defender Azariah George-Lawal, whose team-mate Adam Sidky was sin-binned for his protests at the award. Brown stepped up and sent Francis the wrong way from the spot.

Teddy Desmond had to block an effort at the far post from a Clapton chance that followed a long throw, and from the resulting corner, referee Matthew Jackson spotted a push in the Romford penalty area and awarded the visitors the penalty which James Goldring missed.

There had been few chances in the first half and there were even fewer after the break, but critically, Boro took one that came their way. The first chance of the second half fell to Clapton but Johnson was able to turn a header over the bar in the 47th minute before Boro doubled their lead after 55 minutes. Clapton keeper Francis conceded a corner when he failed to control a back pass and when Cocking swung the ball into the penalty area, it was met at the far post by Day with a stooping header for his fifth goal in just three starts for Boro.
There was no way back into the game for Clapton after that and Romford might have had a third goal when Day met Brown’s cross but was denied by an excellent save by Francis.

Next for Romford is the visit to Mayesbrook Park on Wednesday of high-flying Hullbridge Sports, who will present a much tougher challenge than did Clapton. Boro then embark on a run of seven games in which six are away, with the Halloween visit of Hutton the only game at home.
