Tradespeople and supporters are being encouraged to attend the van rally in solidarity and help send a clear message that tool theft and illicit trade will not be tolerated.

Trades United has announced plans for a major van rally outside Romford Magistrates Court on 4 June as tradespeople unite to highlight the growing crisis of tool theft and illegal trading.

The rally will coincide with the trial of two individuals charged with offences relating to stolen goods and the illegal supply of medicines.

The two defendants, both from Hackney, were charged on 6 February 2026 with handling stolen goods and selling, supplying, or offering to supply medicines subject to general sale outside of a registered pharmacy.

The charges follow Metropolitan Police operations carried out at the Bonzer Boot Fare in Havering in May 2025 and an earlier operation at Willow Farm boot fare in April 2025.

During the operations, officers seized a significant quantity of suspected stolen tools, further highlighting growing concerns within the trades industry over organised tool theft and the illegal resale market.

The defendants appeared before Barkingside Magistrates Court on Friday 20 February 2026 where they entered not guilty pleas to both charges.

Trades United says the planned rally is designed to shine a spotlight on the devastating impact tool theft continues to have on tradespeople, small businesses and construction companies across the country.

The organisation says stolen tools are not simply replaceable items, but the livelihoods of hardworking men and women whose jobs, projects and incomes are severely affected when equipment is taken.

Trades United is also calling for stronger consequences for those found guilty of offences connected to tool theft and illicit trading.

Shoaib Awan, founder of Trades United said:

“We are standing together as a community to shine a light on the serious issue of tool theft and illegal trading. These crimes have a real and lasting impact on tradespeople, many of whom rely on their tools to earn a living. This rally is about raising awareness and calling for meaningful deterrents.”

Tradespeople and supporters are now being encouraged to attend the van rally in solidarity and help send a clear message that tool theft and illicit trade will not be tolerated.
