Five teenage boys remain in police custody after officers arrested them in connection with a series of alleged robberies across Havering.

The boys, aged between 15 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of robbery following a number of incidents reported throughout April and May, many involving victims allegedly being threatened at knife point.

Several of the robberies had been highlighted by the Havering Daily in recent weeks as concerned residents and parents voiced growing fears over teenagers being targeted for phones, jackets and personal belongings while travelling home from school.

Police had assured the community they were actively investigating the incidents and on Wednesday night officers moved in, arresting five teenagers in a major development in the investigation.

One of those arrested is believed to be just 15 years old.

The arrests will provide reassurance to many families across Havering who have become increasingly worried about knife related robberies involving young people across the borough.

Residents have repeatedly called for stronger police action and increased patrols around schools, transport hubs and hotspot areas.

Frontline officers, safer neighbourhood teams and specialist units have been working intensively behind the scenes to identify suspects linked to the robberies and remove dangerous individuals from the streets.
