UPDATE: Rainham Fire Now Under Control After Large Emergency Response.
A major fire that saw 12 fire engines and around 80 firefighters called to Berwick Pond Road in Rainham has now been brought under control.
London Fire Brigade has confirmed the fire involved a brick outbuilding at a commercial property, with crews working to cool a number of cylinders that had been exposed to the intense heat of the blaze.
The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, with Berwick Pond Road closed while firefighters tackled the fire. Motorists were advised to avoid the area as traffic was significantly affected.
London Fire Brigade was supported by firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, who assisted crews in bringing the fire under control.
Although the blaze has now been contained, firefighters remain at the scene extinguishing the remaining pockets of fire and damping down hotspots to ensure the area is made safe.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established and enquiries are expected to continue.
