Free community choir invites Havering residents to sing together
A new free community choir is set to launch in Havering this February, inviting residents of all ages and abilities to come together through music, with no auditions and no cost to take part.
The Community Choir is a simple and inclusive idea built around bringing people together. Participants will rehearse once a week over eight weeks, leading to two live concerts at the end of March.
Rehearsals will take place every Thursday evening, starting on 5 February, at St John Parish Church in South Hornchurch (RM13 7XT). Sessions will run from 7pm to 9pm, giving local residents the chance to unwind, meet new people and enjoy singing in a relaxed environment.
After eight weeks of rehearsals, the choir will perform in two concerts for the local community. The first will take place on Saturday 28 March 2026 at 2.30pm, followed by a second performance on Sunday 29 March at 10.30am. Both concerts are intended to celebrate the journey of the choir and share the experience with friends, family and the wider community.
Importantly, the choir is completely free to join, and there are no auditions. Organisers say the focus is not on perfection, but on participation, confidence and connection.
The project is being led by Pastor Paul King-Brown, who has lived in the local area for the past two years. Paul brings significant experience, having run community choirs in Notting Hill for 11 years before moving to Havering. He said the aim is to create a welcoming space where people feel comfortable singing, regardless of background or experience.
The initiative reflects a growing interest in community-led activities that support wellbeing, social connection and inclusion. By keeping the choir free and open to everyone, organisers hope to attract a wide mix of residents, from those who have never sung before to those who simply miss being part of a group.
For many, the choir offers a chance to be part of something positive, local and shared. As the organisers put it, the message is simple: Community Together.
