Havering Police host fantastic ‘Our Harold Hill’ community fun day.

This was the best community day Havering has seen this year!

Thousands of residents came to Central Park, Harold Hill on Saturday 7 September to join in the many fun activities organised by Havering Police for their special community day.

The day saw endless fun packed activities such as face painting, boxing thanks to Box Up Crime and a special Met Police Boxing champion, police horses, police dogs, firearms officers, traffic officers, bomb disposal officers, and even a special fly by from the police helicopter team!

Also participating were our local firefighters, Harold Hill Deer Aid, Youth Unity, The Ricky Hayden Memorial team, Havering Council services, St John’s Ambulance to teach vital first aid skills, and many bouncy castles for children to have fun on.

Families had the chance to chat with their local Safer Neighbourhood Teams, to meet officers from many different specialist groups and learn about their role, had the opportunity to ride a special police motorbike and meet some very special police dogs and horses. There was even an opportunity to challenge a police officers to a special boxing event!

This really was a fantastic day out for everyone who attended. Children left with glitter on their faces and big smiles after a day of fun!

Havering Mayor Councillor Gerry O Sullivan also attended to enjoy the activities and chat with locals.

A huge well done to Chief Inspector Charlie Routley and Amy Barker for organising this incredible event. Chief Inspector Routley has been a key figure across Harold Hill, not only engaging with the local community but also instrumental in reducing shop theft across the area thanks to the Clear Hold Build Initiative that has seen a 50% drop in crime across the Hilldene shopping area.

Mr Routley told the Havering Daily:

“Today’s “Our Harold Hill” Community Fun Day has been a huge success and it was fantastic to see so many people from the local community join us. The feedback has been amazing and it was great to see residents from all walks of life coming together to enjoy the day.

I would like to thank Havering Council, RM3 Events and Jan Sargent and Alex Vella from The Friends of Central Park, for their help in planning and making this event happen. Also to all of the different service providers, such as Box Up Crime, Youth Unity, St John’s Ambulance and many others, who gave up their time to support us.

Bringing communities together like this is key as we look to work together to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and rebuild trust in the Metropolitan Police Service. Hopefully we can build on events like this and plan more in the near future”.

Havering Police have an excellent relationship with their local communities and it is through events like this that they can engage so well with residents and have a chat about any concerns they may have.

Well done to Chief Inspector Routley for this amazing event, to all the Safer Neighbourhoods officers who engaged so well with their local residents and Superintendent Neal Donohoe who is is responsible for Emergency Response Policing across East Area who came along with his police motorbike and spoke to hundreds of locals on the day.

Let’s have more of these right across the borough!
