Councillor Keith Prince Secures Assembly Backing For Stronger Action On Launders Lane.
Councillor Keith Prince AM has secured London Assembly backing for his amendment strengthening calls for the permanent clean-up of Arnold’s Field, Launders Lane.
The amendment, moved by Cllr Keith Prince AM and seconded by Alex Wilson AM, passed at today’s London Assembly Plenary, ensuring that the final motion formally recognises the work already being undertaken by the new Havering Council administration and requires the Council to be directly involved in future discussions over the site’s remediation.
Keith’s successful amendment added recognition of Havering Council’s recent work, including his letter to the Environment Secretary urging the Government to reconsider funding for the site and his request for Council officers to explore a potential legal challenge to the decision to exclude Arnold’s Field from the latest remediation programme.
It also amended the motion so that Havering Council officers and the Leader of the Council must be included in the proposed meeting to agree a funded timetable for the permanent remediation of Launders Lane.
Cllr Keith Prince AM, Reform UK London Assembly Member for Havering and Redbridge and Leader of Havering Council, said:
“Residents in Rainham have suffered from Launders Lane for far too long, so I am pleased the Assembly backed my amendment.
“Havering Council is already taking action, and this vote makes clear that we must be at the table when the future of the site is discussed.
“This is about working together and finally securing the permanent solution residents deserve.”
The amended motion now calls on the Mayor to press the Government for funding, seek an explanation for why Launders Lane was excluded from national clean-up support, and report back to the Assembly on progress towards permanent remediation.
