Sainsbury’s Moves To Stop ‘Race Track’ Chaos At Hornchurch Car Park
Sainsbury’s has moved to tackle late-night driving problems at its Hornchurch store after residents raised concerns about vehicles using the car park as a racetrack.
Residents living close to the store say they have repeatedly heard loud engine revving, tyre screeching and vehicles racing around the car park during the early hours.
Tyre marks left across the car park have also raised concerns among residents about the manoeuvres being carried out late at night.
People living along nearby Burnway have also reported vehicles allegedly using the road as a racetrack, with residents recently identifying one driver and passing the details to police.
Police subsequently acted swiftly.
Now Sainsbury’s has stepped in with a new measure designed to prevent its car park being used inappropriately while the store is closed.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson told the Havering Daily:
“To make sure our car parks are used appropriately while the store is closed, we are introducing a 10-minute parking limit at our Hornchurch store between midnight and 7 am. The change will be clearly signposted and monitored using our existing ANPR cameras.”
The move will mean vehicles using the car park between midnight and 7am will be subject to the new 10-minute limit.
Residents have welcomed the action, particularly after concerns about repeated late-night disturbances.
The local Sainsbury’s staff have also been praised by residents for being extremely helpful and for working with local Safer Neighbourhood officers to address the problems.
For those living nearby, the hope is that the new restrictions and monitoring will put an end to the late-night noise and dangerous driving concerns.
