Could Your Child’s Outgrown Coat Keep A Havering Family Warm This Winter?
Residents are being asked to donate children’s winter clothing they no longer need to help local families facing a difficult winter.
Peter Chand is working with local schools to distribute good-quality clothes to children and families in Havering, Barking and Dagenham.
The Keep Us Warm appeal is looking for beanie hats, scarves, neck warmers, gloves, mittens, jumpers, cardigans and winter coats. The organisers say schools are seeing children arrive without clothing suitable for colder weather as household budgets remain under pressure.
Donations should be clean, in good condition and suitable to pass directly to another family. Packages must be marked “SCHOOLS”, show the sizes of the items inside and be labelled for the attention of Peter Chand.
Anyone who would like an acknowledgement should include their name and email or home address inside the package.
Items can be delivered to Peter Chand at Parkside Community Centre in Goodmayes. The organiser’s stated drop-off hours are Monday to Thursday from 9am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am until noon. The centre is closed to donations on Fridays.
The appeal also says free collection can be arranged from addresses in Havering, Barking, Dagenham and Redbridge postcode areas.
The appeal says every suitable donation, however small, could help a child or family stay warm this winter.
