HORNCHURCH CHAOS AS MERCEDES CRASHES INTO PARKED CAR AND SENDS IT INTO HOUSE.
A police attempt to stop a Mercedes over concerns about excess speed turned into a dramatic overnight crash in Hornchurch after the vehicle allegedly made off from officers before smashing into a parked car and propelling it into a nearby house.
Met Police officers attempted to stop the Mercedes at around 3.40am on Saturday, 19 September, on Brentwood Road, Hornchurch.
Police say officers had concerns about the speed at which the vehicle was being driven when they attempted to stop it.
However, the Mercedes failed to stop and made off from police.
A short time later, officers located the vehicle on Clydesdale Road after it had collided with a parked car.
The impact was so severe that the parked vehicle was propelled into a nearby house, causing what the Met described as significant damage.
Officers arrested the driver, a 37-year-old man, at the scene.
He was initially arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
The man had suffered minor injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
While at hospital, he was further arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and driving whilst disqualified.
He was subsequently discharged from hospital and taken to a police station.
The man was later bailed pending further enquiries.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The incident highlights the potentially devastating consequences that can follow when a vehicle fails to stop for police, with the collision involving a parked car and a nearby residential property.
Police are now appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward.
