Creating a Greener Future: The Ecology Park and Visitor Centre at East Havering
Cllr Graham Williamson, Cabinet Member for Development and Regeneration, has set out how the proposed East Havering Data Centre Campus could also deliver significant environmental benefits, highlighting plans for a large-scale Ecology Park and Visitor Centre as a key part of the vision for the borough’s future.
Some of the main benefits from the Data Centre are economic e.g. jobs, skill development, business rates, spend within the local economy, horticultural production via waste heat etc. but the proposal actually combines that with environmental responsibility.
The proposed Ecology Park and Visitor Centre (up to 60% of the whole site), alongside the East Havering Data Centre, is designed to deliver lasting benefits for biodiversity, education, and community wellbeing.
A Haven for Nature and People
Enhancing Biodiversity: The Ecology Park will introduce new habitats for wildlife, supporting local species and contributing to the borough’s ecological resilience.
Accessible Green Spaces: Residents will enjoy open areas for leisure, walking, and learning – spaces that promote health and wellbeing.
Educational Opportunities: Schools and community groups will have access to outdoor learning environments, fostering awareness of sustainability and conservation.
This initiative aligns with Havering’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and creating a greener borough. By integrating natural landscapes with cutting-edge technology, the project demonstrates how innovation and ecology can work hand in hand.
The Ecology Park is more than a green space – it’s a statement of Havering’s dedication to sustainability and quality of life. We invite residents to learn more and contribute their ideas during the consultation period.
The Local Planning Authority (LPA) is leading the formal consultation process, ensuring all views are considered. Havering Council’s role is to share information about the potential benefits of the Ecology Park and encourage residents to participate in shaping its future. It closes on April 7th so offer your considered opinion now:
