Havering AC Young Athletes End Season In Style With Brilliant Second Place In League Final
Under-18 men dominate their age group as the club finishes behind hosts Chelmsford in the Eastern Young Athletes’ League Top 6 Final.
Havering Athletic Club’s young athletes ended their club season in style with an excellent second-place finish in the Eastern Young Athletes’ League Top 6 Final at Chelmsford on Sunday 6 September.
Hosts and league champions Chelmsford completed a fourth successive league and trophy double with 710 points, but Havering improved on their third-place league finish to take second overall with 630 points, comfortably ahead of SS Athletics on 554.
The standout performance came from Havering’s Under-18 men, who won their category with 127 points after a dominant series of results. The full-strength team recorded 15 victories and finished almost 30 points clear of their opposition.
Romel Semper took maximum points in both sprints, while Tobi Bello won the B 100m and Ryan Alexander the B 200m. Aidan Doherty won both the B 400m and 800m, with further track victories for Freddie Rowe and Shea Sweeney.
Ryan Alexander also improved his high jump personal best to win that event, while field victories came from Bode Thompson, Jayden Wilkinson, Sam Johnson, Harrison Rabess, Reggie Marshall and Sam Burdett. Romel Semper, Tobi Bello, Ryan Alexander and Tobias Samuel also combined to win the sprint relay.
Havering’s Under-16 boys also produced a strong display, sharing first place with Chelmsford on 105 points. National medallist Ameer Salaam won the shot, Ethan Johnson smashed his javelin personal best to win, and Derin Okubanjo took victory in the triple jump. Jake Tregidgo also won the B 800m.
The Under-16 girls and Under-14 girls both finished second in their categories. Abigail Adegite won the high jump with a big personal best, Ayla Baker won the javelin, Olivia Vaughan took the Under-14 100m, Isla Herrera shared first place in the high jump and Emily Johnson won the B javelin.
There were four individual field-event wins for the Under-14 boys, while their sprint relay team of Dre Overare, Lawrence Fearon, Gideon Lee and Elijah Lowe ended the season at the top of the UK club Under-14 rankings.
The Under-18 women also fought hard for points, with Eboni Roach second in both the shot and discus, Jess Page runner-up in the javelin and Jessie Lynes cutting chunks from her personal best to finish second in the 400m.
It was a strong end to the season for Havering AC, with performances across every age group contributing to an impressive runners-up finish against some of the strongest young athletics clubs in the region.
