EXCLUSIVE:Havering man hits out at lack of support for male victims of domestic abuse.

“I have contacted most support agencies or charities literally begging for help and have received no support whatsoever,” tells a man from Havering currently undergoing domestic abuse.

The man, who did not wish to be named is living in a hotel and being moved from hotel to hotel as he is homeless after having to leave his family home.

“I contacted the men’s branch of Women’s Aid asking for help earlier this year explaining that I needed help and was struggling with my current situation. At that stage I had been placed in a hotel in Essex by Havering Council as I was homeless and they responded that they could not help me as I didn’t live in Havering.

“I do live in Havering, my home is in Havering but due to the current difficult domestic situation, I have been made homeless so the council have found me a hotel and the nearest is in Essex.”

The ongoing situation has meant the man has been experiencing a lot of domestic abuse and has found himself in need of help.

“I have been begging for help and I was told again that as the hotel I’m staying in is in Essex, I can not receive any support despite being a Havering resident all my life.

“I was then moved to another hotel in Havering and I went back and let them know that now I am in a hotel in Havering and they now responded by saying that they would look into my case and reassess it.

“I have been suffering post separation abuse, my abuse carries on each week. I suffer psychological abuse and really need some support from those who deal with male victims of domestic abuse.

“I have logged all the relevant information in my case and can show clearly what is going on, yet as a man I am not offered any support. I am able to show and support all my claims as I have done in court, yet all these organisation automatically only take one side and male victims are left to suffer.

“I am still in the middle of an abusive ongoing battle to not only see my children each week, but to get any kind of support to help me through this situation. It is sad to know that as a man, we are automatically seen as the culprits and perpetrators when that clearly isn’t always the case.

“Men are also victims of domestic abuse and must be able to have the right level of support.”
