More flats to be built in Romford.
From Roneo Corner to the Waterloo estate Romford could see a further 5,500 flats being built.
Flats are being planned for the former ice skating rink, Waterloo estate, the Seedbed Centre and Roneo Corner packing the area with a possible 5,500 new properties.
Romford Civic Society, an environmental pressure group have objected to the application for the redevelopment of the former ice rink site in Romford due to the amount of land that will be built upon and lack of green space.
Andrew Curtin from the Society told the Havering Daily: “We are very dubious what this module build will look like.
“Part of it needs to incorporate nature. Nature is suffering here, our river is a super highway for nature and must be respected.”

The Society has objected to the application for the redevelopment of the former ice rink site on the following grounds:
Too much of the ground area of the site is covered by buildings in the proposal, resulting in a poorly designed development with a lack of space to give articulation to and context for the structures proposed.
The development does not contribute to a rhythmic, coherent and orderly modern approach to Romford and living environment along Rom Valley Way with no relationship of mass and volume to other proposed schemes along the road.
The development does not contribute to a clearly defined plan to introduce a step-change to nature conservation and biodiversity in central Romford, relating to the renaturalisation of the River Rom and the creation of nature corridors linking natural habitats and Thames Chase, Raphael Park, Cottons Park and beyond through the centre of the urban area.
We are unconvinced by the proposed modular build at the site and extremely concerned that this will produce a tatty and worn impression in decades to come.
We are concerned that proposed health infrastructure at the site does not relate to a clear needs-based strategy for the future health infrastructure requirements of the increased local community arising from the scale of development proposed in the centre of the town.

Looks like the council want to jam them in, however, as this is Mr Rosindale’s territory and a con controlled ward, what you see is what you won’t get. Messrs Rosindale & White won’t want to much affordable housing in their areas in case the voting dynamics of the people changes. Conspiracy theorists could say this could be construed as another form of gerrymandering, similar to the Shirley Porter gerrymandering scandal in the late 1980’s.
We should be building hundreds of local authority homes. There are very few well paid and permanent jobs out there and private rents are extortionate. We will have a generation of homeless people with very low incomes
