Heritage, Open Days And Spooky Fun: What’s Coming To Upminster Windmill?
One of Havering’s best-known landmarks is preparing to welcome visitors for a packed autumn programme featuring heritage, open days and seasonal family fun.
Upminster Windmill has announced four opportunities for residents to visit and support the historic site between September and October.
The programme begins with Heritage Weekend on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. The annual celebration gives communities the opportunity to explore local history and discover the stories behind important buildings and landmarks.
A further open day will take place on Sunday 27 September, followed by an open weekend on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October.
The autumn programme will end with Spooky Sunday on 25 October, bringing a seasonal twist to the windmill ahead of Halloween.

- Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September: Heritage Weekend

The restored smock mill is one of the borough’s most recognisable historic buildings. It reopened to the public in 2023 following a major restoration programme and is supported by volunteers who help preserve the site and share its history with visitors.
The events offer residents who have not yet explored the restored landmark another opportunity to visit, while returning visitors can learn more about the windmill and the work required to protect it for future generations.
As a local heritage charity, Upminster Windmill also relies on public interest, volunteers and community support to continue its work.
