Free Bike Checks And A Family Ride Come To Hornchurch For London Cycling Festival

Families and cyclists of all abilities are being invited to join a marshalled nine-mile ride through Hornchurch as Havering celebrates the London Cycling Festival.

Havering Cyclists will lead the family-friendly ride from Hornchurch Country Park Visitor Centre on Sunday 20 September, travelling mainly along shared-use paths to the River Thames before returning to the park.

The route follows National Cycle Route 136 and is approximately nine miles long. The ride will leave at 10am and organisers expect the group to return to the Visitor Centre at around 1pm.

The event is designed to give residents an enjoyable and supported opportunity to explore part of Havering by bike. Marshals will accompany the group throughout the ride.

Free bicycle checks will also be available through a Dr Bike service opposite the entrance to the Visitor Centre from 9am until 2pm.

Cyclists can arrive early and have their bike checked before setting off, visit after completing the ride or simply use the service without joining the group. Dr Bike will provide cycling advice, safety checks and minor repairs where possible.

The Visitor Centre has toilets, refreshments and car parking available. Organisers recommend arriving in sufficient time for any checks before the ride departs promptly at 10am.

The ride forms part of the London Cycling Festival, which aims to encourage more people to discover cycling and take part in accessible activities around the capital.

The starting point is Hornchurch Country Park Visitor Centre, Squadron Approach, Hornchurch, RM12 6DF.

Participation in the ride should be registered in advance through the London Cycling Campaign website at lcc.org.uk/events/festival-tickets.
