NewBeam Park Councillors Welcome Completion Of Consul Way Resurfacing Works

Beam Park Labour councillors are pleased to see the resurfacing of Consul Way now complete, improving conditions for businesses and making the area safer for staff.

Councillors Trevor Mckeever and Matthew Stanton visited the site on 23 June to view the completed works, following a period where the exit onto the Marsh Way roundabout had become dangerously damaged.

Due to the layout of the dual carriageway and the volume of traffic accessing the Tesco depot, it had not been possible to carry out repairs while maintaining access. Rather than allow the situation to deteriorate further, the councillors arranged for Havering Highways officers to attend site and work through potential solutions.

Cllr Mckeever said: “One of the key issues was the volume of vehicle movements in and out of the junction. There was no safe way, as things stood, to carry out the work while keeping access open.”

As Havering only has responsibility for the immediate junction, it was necessary to work with the landowner to put a practical solution in place.

Cllr Stanton said: “Simply imposing a road closure would have disrupted local businesses without addressing the underlying issue. We’re pleased to see that changes have now been made to the central reservation so that, where needed in future, traffic can be managed safely while works are carried out.”

During the visit, the councillors also noted that footpaths around the roundabout had become overgrown and have raised this with the Council for clearance.

The councillors say they will continue to push for improvements to the local highway network, including recent changes to traffic lights at Marsh Way and ongoing work following the adoption of roads on the Beam Park development.
