Harold Hill Community Champion Rico Maza today writes in the Havering Daily.

A £billion proposal on protected Green Belt land in North Ockendon demands proper public consultation.

Former Councillor Graham Williamson is appears to be actively championing the Mega Data Centre earmarked for Green Belt land near Rainham and Upminster, in North Ockendon.

This is not a minor planning application.

It is one of the largest infrastructure proposals this area has ever seen and residents deserve far more than to simply be bystanders in the process.

Our elected representatives, MPs and councillors alike, are in office to serve the people and many residents believe the public must have a far greater voice before any final decisions are made.

Campaigners and residents are also calling for the full environmental, water and infrastructure impact assessments to be made publicly available.

Concerns have also been raised regarding the potential scale of water usage linked to a development of this size, with some estimates suggesting it could be equivalent to the consumption of tens of thousands of homes.

Residents across Rainham, Upminster and all of Havering are now calling for expanded consultation and greater public involvement before any decision is taken on the future of the site.
