From Tiny Seed to Towering Giant: Five-Year-Old Riven Grows Incredible 10ft Sunflower.
A five-year-old Havering boy has watched a tiny sunflower seed he planted at school grow into a towering giant standing almost 11ft tall creating a summer full of excitement for the whole family.
Riven Hill planted a single sunflower seed at school on 15 April, never knowing quite how big his little plant would become.
Fast forward several months and that tiny seed has transformed into an incredible sunflower measuring 10ft 11in (333cm) to the top leaf, with a flower head measuring an impressive 10ft 6in (320cm).
For five-year-old Riven, it has been a summer project like no other.
He and his sister have been taking care of the sunflower together, making sure it gets plenty of water as it continued to grow taller and taller.
Mum Casey said the whole family has loved watching the transformation.
“It has been such a fun and wonderful experience for our family to watch it grow, and Riven and his sister have been watering it together.”
The children have been particularly excited to head outside each morning to see how much it had grown.
And then came the moment they had been waiting for the flower head finally began to open.
“They’ve been really excited to go out every morning to see it, especially as the flower first started to open,” Casey said.
For Riven, what began as a simple school activity has turned into a wonderful summer adventure.
His giant sunflower has become a talking point for the family and a daily reminder of just how much can come from one tiny seed.
And while Riven may only be five, he has already discovered something rather special about gardening:
Plant a seed, give it some love — and you never know how big it might grow!
What started life in a classroom on 15 April is now towering over the family at almost 11 feet tall.
And somewhere underneath that enormous sunflower is a very proud little boy who planted it.
