‘Perpetrators of sexual violence in the UK are overwhelmingly white British men-stop the scapegoating’ Green Party candidate slams rhetoric over migrants.

Campaigner Ruth Kettle-Frisby today writes in the Havering Daily.

In light of the heat that is being stoked and the division being stirred up here in Havering, it’s important to make it crystal clear that the perpetrators of sexual violence in the UK are overwhelmingly White British men, not undocumented migrants.

So, shall we start tarring all White British men with this brush? Of course not, and nor should we.

But this does point to a certain hypocrisy, when it’s precisely these men with political power who tend to control these pernicious, dehumanising narratives. 

Reform UK is engaged in a particularly dirty politics at the moment, using the local press to scapegoat some of the most vulnerable people – people with values and aspirations who face persecution, deep structural oppression and ongoing trauma – in our communities for political gain.

I urge fellow Havering residents to prioritise the truth over this politicised rhetoric, because falsehoods such as these harm people and perpetuate injustice. 

It’s up to us to take care of each other, to think critically, and to reject racism in all its forms – including this undignified vilification of undocumented migrants in Havering.
