Upminster Gets the Deep Clean Treatment as Council Steps Up Town Centre Makeover
Upminster’s town centre has been given a deep clean this week as Havering Council and its street cleaning contractors, FCC, continue their drive to make the borough’s streets and shopping areas cleaner.

The work forms part of the Cabinet’s 100 Day Plan, which promised improvements residents expect to see, including cleaner streets and town centres, during the administration’s first 100 days.
FCC crews mostly carry out the work early in the morning, making the most of quieter periods when there is less footfall.
The teams use specialised equipment, including a Gladiator MV7000, which has a mechanical scrubbing deck and uses steam to deep clean large pedestrian spaces. Powerful jet washers and other mechanical sweepers are also used.
The machinery enables crews to remove stubborn dirt from pavements and areas in front of and around local businesses, clean away unsightly graffiti, wash street furniture and clean street signs.
The work will help improve the overall appearance and cleanliness of the areas.
The current programme of deep cleaning began in Romford in August, followed by Hornchurch, Collier Row and Harold Hill.
The deep cleans will also be carried out in Rainham Village and Elm Park town centre over the next couple of weeks.
