A man has been sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment after failing to appear in court following a shoplifting offence.

On Wednesday, 8 October, officers from Upminster’s Safer Neighbourhoods Team located and arrested a man wanted for failing to appear at court in relation to a theft and shoplifting offence. He was charged and remanded to court the following day.

On Thursday, 9 October, Robert Carroll, 45, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Thames Magistrates’ Court to six weeks’ imprisonment and ordered to pay a £154 fine.

South Havering Inspector Mark Connolly told the Havering Daily:

“Upminster Safer Neighbourhood Team officers were on patrol in Upminster High Street when they identified a persistent offender, Robert Carroll. The team were swift to recognise him as a wanted offender, which resulted in his arrest.

Crime will be dealt with swiftly and will not be tolerated. Your Safer Neighbourhood Teams are on patrol in Upminster and Hornchurch and will continue to target any persistent offenders, including applying for Criminal Behaviour Orders to ban them from the area.

I would encourage all residents and businesses to sign up to www.metengage.co.uk for up-to-date activities and direct contact with the team. If you suspect a crime is being committed, please call 101, and if it’s happening now, call 999.”
