Man CHARGED After Alleged Arson Attack On Romford Field.

A 53-year-old man has been charged after police received reports of a man allegedly deliberately setting fire to fields in Cottons Park, Romford.

Police were called on Friday 14 August following reports that a man was setting fires within the park.

The suspect had left the area before officers arrived, but police immediately carried out an area search.

Officers located a man shortly afterwards and arrested him on suspicion of arson.

The 53-year-old was subsequently charged and remanded in custody to appear before the court.

The arrest comes after a summer of repeated grass and land fires across Havering, which have placed considerable pressure on emergency services and caused concern among local residents.
