GALLOWS CORNER SAGA: JULIA LOPEZ ACCUSES MAYOR KHAN OF “EVADING SCRUTINY”.

Julia Lopez MP has stepped up her pressure on Mayor Sadiq Khan over the continuing Gallows Corner saga, accusing him of failing to answer questions about the escalating costs and delays surrounding the project.

At the start of July, the Hornchurch and Upminster MP wrote to the Mayor with a series of Freedom of Information requests aimed at establishing how much the continuing delays and design decisions are costing Londoners.

Julia says the Mayor has now missed the deadline for responding.

She said:

“At the start of July I wrote to Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, with a series of Freedom of Information requests on Gallows to try to find out just how much money the ongoing delays and design decisions are costing Londoners.”

She accused the Mayor of avoiding scrutiny and said she would continue pursuing answers.

“The Mayor has missed his deadline to respond to my questions and is evading scrutiny – he is treating residents and businesses with disinterest to the point of contempt. I will keep going.”

The latest development comes as Essex & Suffolk Water has confirmed that repair work to the new water main is now complete, with the replacement sections of pipe successfully passing pressure testing.

Final commissioning work is now underway, with Essex & Suffolk Water saying it remains on track to leave the site and hand the area back to TfL by the end of August.

Following the handover, TfL will be responsible for completing the final reinstatement and resurfacing works.

But for residents and businesses who have endured repeated disruption around Gallows Corner, there is understandable caution.

Julia summed up the mood:

“Fingers crossed…we have been here before.”

The MP has also been meeting officials from Essex & Suffolk Water and TfL and has been working with Susan Hall AM, Leader of the Conservative Group on the GLA, to ensure the issues are raised directly with the Mayor.

The continuing questions include how the project has been managed, why delays have occurred and how much the disruption and changes are ultimately costing Londoners.

I’m afraid Julia Lopez MP probably will never get answers from Sadiq Khan, he never answers anything in City Hall. The most evasive mayor London has ever had, ask Susan Hall. It’s about time he was sacked from his position, he has done nothing for London, in fact he’s ruined it. Good luck Ms Lopez.

Maybe you could try doing so at the next mayoral election – you bever know, you may fare better than the last three occasions where Sir Sadiq has won by an increasing majority every time because most Londoners appreciate the goid job he is doing in post.

Incidentally, why is Ms Lopez dealing with this matter when Gallows Corner is actually in the Romford constituency ? I know Mr Rosindell has spent much of the last month in Clacton campaigning against a bin, but surely he could take a few moments away from gazing lovingly at flags to deal with stuff going on in HIS constituency rather than leaving it to the MPs in neighbouring areas.

Bad mouthing Mr Khan seems be the main preoccupation by some people, Islamaphobia and racism seems to reign supreme, rather than addressing the very difficult issues that improving a major traffic intersection inevitably creates. Anything on this scale involves multiple agencies and unforeseen conditions. At least it was started and not delayed after the next mayoral election, a temptation to kick a serious issue into the long grass for someone else. It is also ludicrous to hold one person to account!! Mr Khan has my vote every time! Hurray for ULEZ, active travel, cycle infrastructure in London, free bus travel for children the summer. I have met him on several occasions, public meetings where he answers direct questions from the public and has a calm polite demeanour to anything being asked. It’s a shame that backward climate denial Havering Council are more interested in cancel culture, flags and illegal immigration. (BTW the “small boats” boats is a direct result of Brexit – check the stats). And while I am on a roll, on the basis polluters should pay for clearing up, can we have the tatty flags put up illegally removed? Preferably paid for by the tbe persons who put them up in the first place?? Thank you!
