S.M.I.L.E London And Essex Launch Easter Appeal To Support Nearly 3K Homeless Children.

S.M.I.L.E London & Essex has launched its 2025 Easter Appeal, with an urgent call to the community to help bring smiles to nearly 3,000 children currently living in homeless hostels across Havering, Barking and Dagenham, and Essex.

These children, many of whom are living in cramped, unsuitable conditions with limited access to outdoor space or normal childhood experiences, are facing another holiday without celebration or joy. For them, something as simple as an Easter egg can be a powerful reminder that they are seen, loved, and not forgotten.

The goal? To collect thousands of Easter eggs and seasonal treats to hand-deliver to children living in temporary accommodation in time for Easter weekend.

“We know it’s a tough time for everyone right now,” said Maria Quaife, CEO of S.M.I.L.E London & Essex. “Families across our community are struggling with rising bills, food costs, and rent. So we completely understand that even buying an extra Easter egg might feel like a stretch. But if you can – even just one egg – you’re helping us reach a child who may not otherwise receive anything at all this Easter.”

Donate an Easter Egg or Treat: We’re collecting chocolate eggs, mini chicks, Easter bunnies – anything festive that will bring a smile.

Deadline for Drop-Offs: Friday 11th April 2025 at our Romford Hub.

Deadline for Online Deliveries: Tuesday 15th April 2025.

Make a Donation: Can’t get to us in person? Your financial donation will help us bulk-buy eggs and reach even more children. Every £1 really does count.

This is a true community effort – and S.M.I.L.E is urging local schools, workplaces, supermarkets, and individuals to get involved however they can. Whether it’s one egg or one hundred, every single act of kindness matters.
