Havering Celebrates Its 60th Birthday!
This week marks 60 years since the formation of the London Borough of Havering (LBH).
LBH, or Havering Council, was established by the London Government Act of 1963 which saw the amalgamation of Romford Borough Council with Hornchurch Urban District Council as the Borough of Havering from Thursday 1 April 1965.
To mark this historic milestone, Havering Council is hosting a special photo exhibition on the 60 years of Havering, which you can learn more about and see a sneak peek of below.

Finally, check out the front page of the very first Havering Council publication, Havering Review – Living in Havering’s very own grandad.

60 years in pictures
If you’d like to learn more about Havering’s 60 years of history, our Local Studies Library team have prepared a special exhibition showing the way the borough has changed over the years.
60 Years of Havering – a look back in pictures, opens Today (Tuesday 1 April) at the Central Library in Romford, and will be on display in the foyer of the library during normal opening hours until Tuesday 6 May.
Take a look at some of the photographs below, and remember to stop by the exhibition

Cllr Ray Morgon, Leader of Havering Council, told the Havering Daily:
“We celebrated a huge milestone this week as Havering celebrated its 60th birthday.
“It’s wonderful to see the exhibition our brilliant Local Studies Library Team have put together, showing some of the biggest changes the borough has been through over the years, as well as the big events that have marked our journey through the years.
“I’d would encourage everyone in Havering to visit the exhibition and join me in wishing Havering a very happy birthday.”
Thank you to everyone who has made Havering home, and we hope you’ll join us in wishing our borough a very happy birthday!
Further information about the exhibition can be found in the Living in Havering special published earlier this week.
Happy Birthday Havering!
