Councillors walk local shopping area with police as thieves are caught red handed stealing!

Tuesday 2 April saw the launch of the Elm Park Shop Watch Whatsapp Group . Councillors Barry Mugglestone, Stephanie Nunn and Julie Wilkes did a walkabout of the local shopping area with Met Police officers to chat with retail workers. Having seen how well it works in Harold Hill, the Elm Park Ward Councillors and local Police Elm Park Ward officers, chatted to staff about the ongoing issues. The scheme has been received well and Councillor Mugglestone has received many emails requesting to join the group.

Councillor Mugglestone told the Havering Daily:

“Whilst walking around we went into the Co-op, and would you believe the timing, the manager came around the corner and pointed to a male with a rucksack, who he informed us had been shoplifting. As the male walked around the corner, his face visibly dropped when he saw the Police Sergeant. The man was detained and officers took immediate action. We then had an arrest in Sainsbury’s for shop lifting and this individual was wanted by the Courts, so he was arrested and off to the Courts via the Police Station, so you could say it was a good productive day!”

Councillor Mugglestone finished: “We have another meeting planned with the Dagenham and Rainham Jon Cruddas MP and Margaret Mullane and all the shop managers and staff, as we want Elm Park to be safe and rid of this ASB.”
