White Ribbon Day to be launched in Romford to tackle violence against women and girls.

Walk It Out launches sixteen days of awareness in Romford Saturday 25 November-Wear a white ribbon to stand in solidarity to stop violence against women and girls.

On 25th November Walk it Out will be coming to Romford. Walk it Out is a group aimed to empower young females and women to gain health and well being and stop violence against women and girls. The group raises awareness on women and their safety by supporting and guiding them to help over come their challenges.

Run by April Mehmet and started in Redbridge, the team will be in Romford this Saturday to start 16 days of activism.

April tells the Havering Daily:

We will be on South Street outside Marks and Spencer at 11am this Saturday 25 November. This is day White Ribbon Day where we will be talking to local residents about violence against women and girls. We will be giving out free white ribbons to all who make a promise to never remain silent about violence against women. White ribbon day is an international campaign that calls everyone to take a stand against violence towards women and girls.

To start the 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls, ‘Walk it out’ will step out onto the streets including educational settings to raise awareness. Next week we start with New City College where we will deliver a powerful speech to educate and eliminate violence against women and girls.

Walk it out encourages individuals to make consistent choices and actions to end violence so that women and girls may live their lives free from the fear of violence.

The organisation was created in 2021 to improve the health and well-being of females. Their mission is to raise awareness, improve women’s safety and empower young girls and women to stand up for themselves at home and in public.

“Everyone can help to stamp out violence against women and girls.”

An organisation passionate about enhancing the voice of the community, providing free activities and workshops tailored to build confidence, their goal is to empower ALL!

“We should be able to walk anywhere, anytime without the fear of being attacked.”

Walk it out is taking action to improve women’s safety across communities, working towards preventing gender based violence, with a commitment to support women. Continuously raising awareness and challenging male behaviours to end violence against women and girls, making the streets safer for everyone.

“There should be no place for violence or abuse against women and girls in our community.”

Every day women and girls face street harassment and violence in our own communities with misogyny and sexual harassment becoming so normalised that females find it difficult to speak up so Walk it out has become an advocate and voice for the voiceless.

“We ALL need to unite together in making our communities a safer place.”

We must ALL unite in making our communities a safer place, we should all be looking out for each other, to protect our mothers, our daughters, our sisters, our future females. Anyone coming into our community to socialise or visit should feel and be safe. Women and girls should feel safe in school, at work, on public transport, in green spaces, on the streets, at home, anywhere!

“We shouldn’t have to change anything about ourselves to be safe, men should take accountability.”

We have the power, passion and positivity to change the world.
