Councillor Judith Holt is tackling what she has called the council’s ‘war on motorists’. Councillor Holt is working with local residents in her ward after a large number of complaints about the hefty hike in residents parking permits and the fact that parking machines are soon going to be app only payments.

Councillor Holt told the Havering Daily:

“I have had complaints from a number of residents about the huge hike in charges for resident parking permits in Havering this year.”

The hikes for permits are as follows:

1st permit  from £35.00 to £70.00

2nd permit from £60.00 to £140.00

3rd permit  from £85.00 to £210.00

Havering Council also plans to scrap pay-and-display parking machines and replace them with App-only payments which has left many residents angry as not everyone has these parking apps on their phones or wants to use their phone when parking.

Councillor Holt has hit out at this huge increase in the cost of resident parking permits in Havering Council’s Budget for 2023-2024 and told the Havering Daily:

“A number of my residents were shocked when they came to renew their permits and realised the prices had more than doubled – also, Havering Council had never informed them,” said the Conservative Party Councillor for St. Alban’s Ward. “The 3rd resident permit annual cost has risen from £85.00 to £210.00! Most of the roads in St. Alban’s Ward, like Craigdale Road and George Street, were built over 100 years ago and have no off-street parking. People have no choice but to park in the road – but, they continue to be penalised for it. On top of the threat of ULEZ, this is unacceptable.”

Councillor Holt also criticised the Council’s decision to scrap pay-and-display parking machines in favour of App-only parking. She continued: “This is unfair on those who are not au fait with Apps – especially older people – and, in the long run, will dissuade visitors from Romford and the rest of Havering.”
