‘I am under no illusion that Dover’s Green will come under threat again.’
Following yesterday’s announcement that Dover’s green in Rainham has been saved from development. Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas writes:
Whilst I am over the moon that Havering Council have taken the decision to withdraw their plans to build on Dover’s Green, we have been here before.
Plans to develop the beloved green have been withdrawn twice in the past, yet we still found ourselves fighting to defend it for a third time.
Unfortunately, I think this is little more than a plea for votes ahead of an imminent general election but people are not stupid they can see when they are being played.
This is all so that the council leader – the man personally responsible for the years of anguish experienced by local residents, can try to become an MP.
The community can see through such base cynicism.
I am under no illusions that Dover’s Green will come under threat again, and in the coming weeks I’ll be working with residents to secure ‘Village Green’ status; truly protecting the land for future generations.
while i agree this is a plea for votes labour has done the same thing with there promise to end the universal credit and bedroom tax mp s will promise the world to get there cushy jobs
