Havering sees rise in violence and sexual offences as latest crime figures are revealed
Havering recorded more than 7,000 reports in the Metropolitan Police’s combined “violence and sexual offences” category in the latest 12-month period, with the figure rising by six per cent compared with the previous year.
The latest crime figures covering September 2025 to August 2026 show that Havering recorded 7,061 offences in the combined category.
That represented around 29 per cent of all recorded crime in the borough during the 12-month period.
However, the figure includes a wide range of offences involving violence against the person as well as sexual offences, meaning it cannot be described as 7,061 sexual offences.
The overall number of recorded crimes in Havering during the same period was 24,310, almost unchanged from the 24,403 recorded during the previous 12 months.
The latest figures show that while overall recorded crime remained broadly stable, violence and sexual offences moved in the opposite direction, increasing by six per cent.
Across Havering’s wards, the Metropolitan Police figures show the category continuing to feature prominently among the most commonly reported offences.
In August 2026 alone, for example, there were 77 reports recorded under the combined category in St Edward’s, making it the ward’s most commonly reported crime that month.
Heaton recorded 61 in August, while Rush Green and Crowlands recorded 57.
In Harold Hill, Gooshays recorded 64 reports in July, when the combined category was the most commonly reported crime in the ward.
The figures provide a snapshot of recorded crime rather than the total number of incidents that may have occurred.
They also do not show how many of the offences within the combined category were specifically sexual offences.
The distinction is important because police-recorded crime figures can be affected by reporting patterns, police recording practices and changes in the way offences are dealt with.
Nevertheless, the latest figures show that violence and sexual offences remain a significant part of the crime picture across Havering, accounting for almost three in every ten recorded offences over the latest 12-month period.
With overall crime virtually unchanged year on year, the six per cent increase in this category is likely to be an important figure for local police and residents as they continue to assess crime and policing priorities across the borough.
