FROM 8 METRES TO 20: MAJOR PHONE MAST HEIGHT INCREASE PROPOSED ON WINGLETYE LANE
A phone mast on Wingletye Lane could be replaced with a structure standing 20 metres high under new plans submitted to Havering Council, increasing the height of the existing mast by 12 metres.
Planning application M0001.26 proposes the removal of the existing telecommunications monopole, understood to be around eight metres high, and its replacement with a new 20-metre monopole.
The application relates to land beside the footpath adjacent to Havering Sixth Form College on Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch.
As well as the substantial increase in height, the proposal includes six antennas, replacement equipment cabinets and a new wraparound cabinet, together with associated works.
The proposed mast would therefore be two and a half times the height of the existing structure.
The application has been submitted to Havering Council as a telecommunications planning application.
At this stage, the proposal is not a planning approval and the council has yet to make a decision on the application.
The plans are likely to attract attention because of the scale of the proposed increase, with the replacement mast rising an additional 12 metres above the existing structure.
The location also places the proposed mast close to Havering Sixth Form College and surrounding residential areas.
The application documents set out the applicant’s case for the proposed telecommunications equipment and the need for the development.
However, whether the proposed structure is acceptable in planning terms will ultimately be a matter for the council to determine in accordance with the relevant planning considerations.
