Havering Is Part Of A New Photography Exhibition Showing The London We Rarely See
Outer Capital follows ten documentary photographers on a two-year journey through all 20 of London’s outer boroughs.
Havering is among the outer London boroughs captured in a new photography exhibition exploring the people, streets and everyday spaces that are often missing from the familiar picture of the capital.
Outer Capital brings together work by Vicinity, a collective of ten documentary photographers based in London with both local and international roots.
Over two years, the group met for monthly walks, each dedicated to one of the 20 Outer London boroughs. Their route took them through high streets, shopping centres, markets, housing estates, parks, car parks and the spaces in between, building a wider portrait of life beyond central London.

The project includes Havering as part of that journey and focuses on the ordinary routines, chance encounters and local details that help give each borough its own identity.
The exhibition statement says: “Outer Capital treats that diversity as the subject, rather than the backdrop.”

The ten exhibiting photographers are Wei Jian Chan, Sally Itani, Chanelle Joseph, Sergey Novikov, Sophie Polyviou, Nick Sheridan, Anya Shilonos, Marianna Silvano, Miguel Souto and Ed Taylor. The exhibition is curated by Katy Barron.

According to the organisers, the free exhibition will be open from Tuesday 13 October until Saturday 17 October, from 10am to 6pm each day, at Photofusion, Unit 2, 2 Beehive Place, Brixton, London, SW9 7QR.
A private view is also being held on Thursday 15 October from 6pm to 9pm, giving visitors the opportunity to meet members of the Vicinity Collective and some of the exhibiting photographers.
More information about Outer Capital can be found on the Photofusion website.
