Havering Joint Task Force Delivers Outstanding Results In The Fight Against High-Harm Crime

Havering’s Neighbourhood’s Superintendent Brind shares the outstanding results of Havering Joint Task Force Officers.

The Havering Joint Task Force is a powerful example of what can be achieved when policing and local government work together with a shared determination to protect our communities.

The team currently consists of one Sergeant and five Police Constables, with the equivalent of 2.75 officer posts funded through Havering Council. I have increased the police contribution to the team to maximise its operational capability because of the significant results it continues to deliver.

Since April 2026, this small team has arrested more than 150 suspects for offences ranging from burglary, robbery and dangerous driving to murder, drug supply and recall to prison.

These figures, impressive as they are, only tell part of the story.

The Joint Task Force focuses its attention on prolific and high-harm offenders, disrupting those whose criminal activity has the greatest impact on our residents. This includes organised criminals involved in the exploitation of vulnerable young people, drug trafficking, anti-social behaviour, burglary and vehicle crime.

The officers regularly work long and unsociable hours, sometimes more than 14 hours in a day, to gather evidence, locate offenders and make arrests.

I see first-hand the personal commitment that requires. While most of Havering is sleeping, members of this team can be out pursuing those suspected of breaking into homes or targeting residents’ vehicles.

Their work also reaches beyond Havering. Crime does not stop at borough boundaries and many offenders operate across neighbouring Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Essex. Targeting these individuals in Havering therefore has the potential to protect communities across a considerably wider area.

The quality and reputation of the team is also reflected in the interest from other officers who want to join it or gain experience through attachments when operationally possible.

I am immensely proud of their professionalism, commitment and determination.

I am also grateful for Havering Council’s existing investment in the team. With financial discussions taking place, I hope there will be an opportunity to build upon this partnership and increase that investment.

The results demonstrate what this partnership is capable of achieving. Further investment could allow us to sustain and potentially extend this work, targeting those offenders who cause the greatest harm and safeguarding the residents, visitors and people who work in Havering.

This is exactly what effective partnership policing should be about: combining our resources, focusing relentlessly on those who cause the most harm and delivering tangible results for the public
