Havering Council Approves £105,000 CCTV And Emergency Response Vehicle
The specialist vehicle will be shared across housing, community safety and emergency-planning services.
Havering Council has approved the purchase of a £105,000 multipurpose vehicle for resident engagement, mobile CCTV and humanitarian assistance during emergencies.
The vehicle will replace an eight-year-old resident engagement bus which council officers say has reached the end of its safe and usable life.
A non-key executive decision authorises £85,000 of capital expenditure, with the remaining £20,000 expected to come from part-exchanging the existing vehicle.
The converted vehicle will be available to Housing, Community Safety and Emergency Planning. It is intended to operate as a shared three-in-one resource rather than separate vehicles being obtained for each service.
Officers say the existing Citroën Relay bus is increasingly unreliable and has experienced faults affecting its generator, awning and doors. The replacement is expected to meet the council’s requirements until 2033.
The new vehicle will support public engagement events, allow mobile CCTV to be deployed in different locations and provide facilities for the council’s humanitarian response following a major incident or emergency.
The total cost is supported by a supplier quotation and will be met from an approved capital allocation. Ongoing maintenance will be divided between the Housing Revenue Account and the council’s enforcement budget, while fuel and cleaning costs will fall to the service using it.
The decision was made by Helen Oakerbee, Havering Council’s Director of Planning and Public Protection, under delegated authority. It is recorded as a non-key officer decision and is not subject to call-in.
